After visiting the Air & Space Museum, Time Detectives camp students built
rockets with 2-liter bottles. We then launched them at Zoro Garden to see which
went the highest.

campers sketched turtles at the lily pond with art teacher Miss Candice. Back in
class, they used oil pastels to create turtle drawings.

We’re excited to share highlights from this summer’s San Diego-themed camp - Hometown
Historians, Time Detectives, and Scenes of San Diego! Students aged 5-10 from various San Diego
schools spent their summer exploring local history through arts and crafts, games, and
interactive activities that deepened their connection to our city’s vibrant past.
|
These camps were made possible thanks to the Level Up Enrichment program, offered in partnership
with the San Diego Foundation. The program connects San Diego Unified families with tuition-free
enrichment opportunities, bringing together local nonprofits to provide camps and activities
across the city for students UTK-8. We’re proud to have been part of this initiative, offering
fun and educational experiences to students across our community.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to more enriching opportunities in the
future!

Women’s Equality Day A successful tribute to Fannie
Lou Hamer
|
On August 24, The Women’s Museum of California marked the 104th anniversary of the 19th
Amendment with a focus on civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer. Over 50 attendees enjoyed
nibbles and beer from the San Diego History Center’s Brew Pub and watched the documentary Fannie
Lou Hamer’s America, https://w...content-available-to-author-only...a.com. The film was introduced by Kim
Knox, President of the San Diego League of Women Voters, and Marian Vega Clancy, President of
the North County San Diego League of Women Voters.

History Center photographs regularly show up in books, newspapers, websites, and film projects
from around the world. The strength of our collection is its depth, breadth, and high-quality
imagery expertly preserved, and digitized at the highest resolution. Most recently, we noted
that the New York Times in their August 20, 2024 article “How Costco Hacked the American
Shopping Psyche” incorrectly attributed the above photo of Sol Price to “Courtesy of Costco.” We
reached out to the editorial team, pointing out their mistake. We are pleased to report that
they responded right away, apologized, corrected the misattribution, and purchased a license for
the image.
